The AURUM experience

Fine Dining at its best! 

If you’re looking for a fancy spot with a great atmosphere and incredible cuisine, look no further. AURUM is the place to be.

Situated in The Leonardo hotel, strategically on the 7th floor it’s the perfect place to spend the afternoon gazing at Joburgs sunset. I’ve decided to do just that to end of the celebrations of my birthday. 

The entrance poses as the all famous Instagram picture hub, blooming with flowers and gold steel chairs. 

Now for what you’ve been waiting for , the food. We were served fresh bread which was almost so fresh that it seemed like cake. For starters we had the smoked springbok carpaccio, this included Parmigiano Reggiano, grain mustard emulsion, pickled mushroom, spiced crumb and lemon oil. The spiced crumb just added the right amount of crunch. 

The mains were to die for. The portions were amazing. Now I know some fancy restaurants have you still feeling hungry when you get home, but not AURUM. I helped myself to the FruTTI di Mare. A linguine style dish served with prawn tails, white clams, west coast mussels, calamari , Rosa tomatoes , white wine, herb cream and basil. Which made all my wishes come true and I actually had leftovers to take home.

My significant other choose the Line Fish. Of course spoiling himself on my birthday. This dish included roasted line fish, grilled prawns, mustard crema and oyster mushrooms.

Now let’s talk price and atmosphere. The meals are fine dining prices , I think it’s best to scan through these to get an idea of the prices and meals prior to making a reservation. The atmosphere is gorgeous and definitely Instagram worthy. With an illuminating gold feature stretching across the restaurant that adds different characters during the day light and night light. 

Leading outside there’s a gorgeous pool area boasting the buildings architecture and stunning views of Sandton.
