The Capsule Wardrobe Starter

What is it?

capsule wardrobe is a collection of clothing that is composed of interchangeable items only, to maximise the number of outfits that can be created. The aim is to have an outfit suitable for any occasion without owning excessive items of clothing. Well according to Wikipedia that is.

How?

Achieving this is much harder, simply because we all tend to shop for more than we need. A capsule wardrobe consists of investment pieces that lasts for seasons to come and colours that will compliment every one of these seasons.

The items?

Before we go into this it’s vital to acknowledge that buying cheap isn’t always investing. If you invest in a quality coat this winter it’s most likely that it will be for a few winters to come. Whereas a coat of less quality may either not be able to keep you warm but also the wear and tear of this is much more visible.

The coat

I came across this gorgeous neutral coat on the Zara App. For some reason it had not been in stores. It’s more of a longer length coat which I simply adore. Now Zara sizes really differ, that’s always the case with fast fashion. I usually check the origin of manufacture and that usually gives me an idea of the quality.

The Button-Downs

You can never go wrong with a classic button-down. Recently the subtle blue and blue stripes seem to be making its appearance, and aren't we all loving it. Both blue button-downs are from Cotton On. The plain sky blue is more of a Dad fit, I’ve opted for this to achieve a more relaxed look. The white shirt is from Zara and is a more classic shirt.

The Silk Skirts & Midi Dresses

These are such great pieces that you can dress up or down. I picked up the silk skirt from Shein. The colour is creamy nude and adds elegance to your look. The Midi dress is from Zara that has a mock neck and snug fit, adding hints of sexiness.

The Neutral Cardi & Striped Knit

If you know me, you know that I’m totally into stripes right now. Shamelessly not the only striped knit that I own but definitely one of my favs. I snatched this striped knit up in Zara and the quality is just astounding. As you hold it you can feel the heaviness of the fabric. It has a more oversized fit and adds that french look to your wardrobe. Now for the cardi, cardigans are so in season now. Finding the right cardigan can be daunting, but keep in mind that a more neutral colour can be worn with almost anything.

The Tanks

Tanks are so chick , the classic colours like black and white are a must have. I played around with different types of neck lines, and these two from Zara are my go-to. I sometimes pair these with jeans and loafers for an effortless look.

The Trousers

All Zara, of course their trousers have been so influential on social media that I had to grab them. These colours are made for ageless fashion. They’re all high waisted and sculpts your body perfectly.

The Simple Tee

Simple t-shirts are a permanent fashion trend. They add a more casual look when paired with trousers or jeans. Throw a cardi or blazer over and you’re good to go.

The Denims

To be honest I was rather hesitant with the wide leg look coming back, but I embraced it. Now I’m so glad that I did, it makes any outfit look oh-so-chick. As for the straight classic denim, if you don’t have it by now I suggest you ‘add to cart’.

The Comfy Versatile Shoes

At first I splurged so much on brand name sneakers that were either uncomfortable or just plain down not adaptable. I came across these nude colour sneakers in Cotton On, and I can’t take them off. They’ve accompanied me on errand runs, casual work days , social events you name it. The heel is also from Cotton On that’s so comfy and adds class. The loafers are just my favourite and are from Zara, I had to down size and it’s the perfect fit. I love them!

The Jewellery

A classic white face watch from Daniel Wellington along with a matching cuff, hoops and ring from Zara and Mango, and the timeless disc chain from Mango, you can’t go wrong.

The Accessories

Adding a pop of colour can be easier to achieve with accessories, such as a bag. It can be unsettling and out of your comfort zone to add bright colours to your wardrobe, that’s if you’re like me. I started by adding a subtle rich green bag from Zara that makes any outfit stand out. The specs are from Shein and are so alluringly desirable.

I hope these tips have helped and have given you more perspective on the pieces to add to your wardrobe.

With Love, Lena xx
